In his round of 16 match, Dimitrov faced the Miami open finalist, Casper Ruud. With the current form of the Norwegian tennis player, many didn’t give Dimitrov a chance to win. However, World No. 29 pulled off an upset to get his first top-10 win of the season.

Speaking with the Tennis Channel, Dimitrov said, “It was just a good day today. Honestly, not much I can say. I’ve seen a lot of matches of Casper, especially on clay last year. I mean, he’s won, I feel like all the clay-court tournaments.”

“I’ve played him in San Diego… I kinda understood, like what kind of a game he has but on clay you know I was like, Okay, I need to try to spice things up a little bit, maybe take the ball a little bit earlier. I was trying to be a little bit more aggressive early on, which I think it really helped me, I think it really put him in the backfoot, I kept on putting like a progressive pressure throughout the whole match and it really paid off in the end, I feel,” he further said.

Dimitrov will face a tough opponent in the next match

In the quarter-final match at the Monte Carlo Masters, the Bulgarian will play 11th seeded, Hubert Hurkacz. The Polish player has been in good form in the hard-court season. Earlier, he reached the semi-final at the Miami Open. Pairing up with John Isner, he also won the doubles title in Miami.
