Why DWTS was REALLY dropped by ABC and moved to Disney+ as fans blame Tyra Banks’ “horrible” hosting for big change

Here’s the real reason why Dancing with the Stars was moved to Disney+ as fans blame Tyra Banks.

ABC has dropped the mirrorball on the show, but it is not ending.

Dancing with the Stars is tapping its way over to Disney+ after 30 seasons on ABC, announced by Deadline last week.

While it is moving platforms, the show did get a two-season renewal for seasons 31 and 32.

Season 31 will air in the fall and will be the first live show to air on the streaming service.

ABC will not air repeats and will only air on Disney+.

DWTS is dropped by ABC after low ratings & Tyra Banks hosting backlash

While fans are blaming Tyra Banks and her horrible hosting duties for the big change, that is not the only reason.

Kareem Daniel, the chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, said in a press release, “The show’s broad appeal, as well as the overwhelming popularity of its Disney-themed competition nights, make Disney+ the perfect home for ‘Dancing with the Stars’ while continuing to expand our demographic reach.”

While the Disney-themed competition nights are a big factor, there are a few more reasons.

The future is streaming and with streaming apps comes money.

Kareem and Disney CEO, Bob Chapek, have a goal of Disney Plus reaching 230 to 260 million subscribers by 2024.

Right now, they are only about halfway there.

Although the cheaper, ad-supported option coming later this year, should help this, so should this big move.

With the streaming service bringing in the most streaming minutes from the younger generation, moving a popular network TV show will bring in an older audience, which is currently on at 23 percent.

TY-RED OF TYRA

Although the Disney-themed nights, lower ratings, and lower streaming subscriptions are the main reasons for the change, fans believe host Tyra Banks was another reason.

The Sun can exclusively confirm that Tyra will most likely not host the upcoming seasons.

“There is no official decision on who will be hosting next season but it doesn’t look like Tyra will be back,” a source told The Sun. “Which would be a network decision, not her decision.”

DWTS dropped Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews as hosts in 2020.

They were replaced with Tyra, who has received major backlash from fans.

She has been slammed for her outrageous fashion choices, which take away from the contestants.

Others have said she stumbles on her words, interrupts contestants and pros, yells, and says ‘yeah baby’ all the time.

One time she even mixed up the bottom two couples for elimination

Last season, she took too long to announce the winner, which resulted in the show ending and fans didn’t get to see Iman Shumpert’s reaction.

WHO IS COMING BACK?

While nothing has been made official yet, the judges, Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough, are all suspected to come back.

Tyra is up in the air right now, as are which pros will be returning.

However, it was previously announced that Executive Producer, Andrew Llinares, is not coming back.

His replacement has not been named, but Tyra is also a producer, and if she comes back, she may be a choice for the show.

Andrew has been the EP since 2018.
