How Would NASCAR Fans React if Elon Musk and Tesla Joined the Sport Amidst $43 Billion Twitter Bid

Elon Musk is one of those entrepreneurs who, whatever field they enter, either disrupt it or bring forward a new change. The SpaceX founder has recently been in the headlines for his ‘involvement’ with Twitter. However, given his personality and his knack for doing new things, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that it won’t be long before Mr.Musk tries out his hand in NASCAR.

Especially when NASCAR itself is open to an industry in which the Tesla CEO is a pioneer and leader.

That industry being, electric cars.

Now, this isn’t just a wild guess, but a calculated one. Because earlier this year, NASCAR’s Chief Operating Officer, Steve O’Donnell, opened up on the possibility of having an entire exhibition series with electric cars.

“We are exploring some opportunities around an exhibition series in that space,” O’Donnell had said.

“And as everyone knows, there’s a huge push across all of our (original equipment manufacturer) partners, and even potentially new OEM partners. So it’s important for us to explore that space. I think there’s a lot of interest from our current partners to be part of that.”

How do NASCAR fans feel about an electric future?

O’Donnell had suggested that NASCAR fans are “very open” to the idea of the electric racecars, which he said was, “surprising to some.”

However, the reactions to O’Donnell’s comments didn’t exactly fall under the umbrella of being very open, welcoming, or showing confidence. Quite the opposite, in fact, something rather unsurprising.

Nice. Formula E is pretty fun to watch

Instead of “drivers start your engines”, itll be “drivers, you may now unplug from your chargers” stupidest idea ive heard yet. Itll be like watching a race on mute. You won’t hear anything

Oh God, no. Don’t do it.

What a joke

Now, keeping all of these reactions, of which there are more, in mind, there’s really no way in which NASCAR fans will welcome electrification of their beloved racecar series.

But at the same time, if the sport does end up going that way, there’s little to no doubt in Elon Musk and Tesla considering if not fully stepping in to the stock car racing universe.
