Former F1 Champion Glorifies George Russell- “…He Is Ahead of Lewis Hamilton”
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are consistently performing with a not-so-quick car. The Mercedes W13 was anything but fast in the opening three races. But the Mercedes pair has made the most out of what they have. Mercedes is currently sitting second at the constructors’ championship table. And they cannot complain.
George Russell is also surprisingly second in the driver’s championship table. This shows the mentality of both the drivers as they make the most out of a situation.

The fact that Russell is sitting second in the driver’s championship is incredible. Especially with the car’s performance issues. Russell, ahead of his seven-time world champion teammate, also makes it a surprising fact for some. However, most of it might also have to do with the unreliable nature of the Mercedes W13.

Mika Hakkinen, the two-time world champion, shares his thoughts on Russell‘s performance so far. “George drove a really strong race and that 3rd place was very important. It’s really surprising to see him 2nd in the World Championship. said Hakkinen.

Hakkinen acknowledges how the 2020 world champion Lewis is behind his new teammate in the world championship. “It’s also noticeable that he is ahead of Lewis Hamilton, although the Safety Car had a big influence in Melbourne, so I don’t think that is any reflection of relative performance,” added Hakkinen
Could we see a 3-way championship battle towards the end of this season?
Ferrari is incredibly quick and probably the most reliable car on the grid right now. Ferrari is performing consistently since the first race. Charles Leclerc is ahead in the drivers’ championship as well. Ferrari is gaining traction in the constructors’ championship and Red Bull and Mercedes, as of now, seem far along to stop them.

Ferrari probably has the most realistic opportunity to end the dominance of Red Bull and Mercedes in the modern era. “Red Bull need to fix their reliability issues. This championship could easily develop into a three-way fight between these teams and Ferrari,” summed up Hakkinen.
The teams in question are Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari. Out of the three, Ferrari seems the most likely to take the championship home. However, they need to keep delivering similar performances to the opening three races of the season.
