Britain’s Got Talent isn’t short of memorable acts.

Remember Ashleigh and Pudsey? George Sampson’s Singing In The Rain routine? And who could ever forget Scottish singer Susan Boyle’s jaw-dropping audition?

Of course, one of the biggest acts ever to emerge from the Simon Cowell-led ITV talent show is Diversity.

The Ashley Banjo-led street dance troupe had killer routines, perfect precision and back-flipping youngster Perri Kiely. Audiences loved them, and ultimately they won their series.

But when exactly were Diversity on BGT?

Yep, it’s been 13 years since they triumphed over singer Susan Boyle and saxophone player Julian Smith in the grand finale.

The troupe, which formed around 2007, won £100,000 and a slot at that year’s Blackpool-based Royal Variety Performance – allowing them to showcase their talents before the Royal Family.

Diversity wowed judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan in their initial audition – earning three well-deserved ‘yes’ votes, quickly advancing through the competition.

To this day, their first dance holds a special place in fans’ hearts and minds, as it was recently voted the second most iconic moment in BGT history.

When was Diversity’s Black Lives Matter performance?

Of course, we’ve seen Diversity pop up on Britain’s Got Talent a few times since they won in 2009.

The group returned in 2019, for a special routine during the final to commemorate 10 years since they won the show.

But most memorable of all is their 2020 performance addressing the Black Lives Matter movement.

The powerful display, though drawing Ofcom complains at the time, eventually received a 2021 BAFTA TV award for Must-See Moment.

Britain’s Got Talent starts on Saturday, April 16 at 8pm on ITV.
