I’m a fashion expert – what your go-to style of jean says about you, & which choice you need to avoid

DENIM literally never goes out of fashion – but how it’s styled is constantly changing.

From flares to skinny jeans, it can be hard to keep up – but have you ever wondered what your go-to denim decision say about you?

Personal stylist and body shape expert Abbey says: “There is a definite relaxed vibe to denim in 2022, from asymmetric jackets to full skirted dresses on the runways, there’s something for everyone.

“It’s fascinating to see denim’s journey from standard workwear designed to be durable and practical by Levi’s in 1873, to 1960’s flares and bootcut styles heralding a more relaxed era, to the ubiquitous skinny jean in the 2000’s.”

Here Abbey reveals what your choice reveals about you…

Bootcut

The most flattering of style for many body shapes and has leg lengthening properties, especially if worn in a high-waisted style, great for petites.

FROCK YEAH

I turn charity shop bargains into chic outfits & I even MAKE money – here’s how

The fashionista’s choice of denim with a nod to the free spirit of the 70’s yet reinvented in a 2022 version this style evokes a certain nonchalance.

Straight leg

Very flattering for top heavy body shapes as they have the effect of balancing out proportions but can be seen as a bit safe especially if worn with oversized tops and baggy knits the wearer will become lost in the shapeless volume of it all.

Perhaps for someone wanting to blend in and looking for comfort and practicality.

Skinny jeans

The queen of jeans for so long and, for many women, the go to choice.

Every year we hear the skinny is over and whilst I don’t think they’re over there’s definitely more choice than ever before and some skinny styles have started to look a little dated.

Not a great shape for bottom heavy body shapes like pear shapes.

I still think for many women it’s a practical style but with more people looking for comfort and less right restrictive styles after lockdown this is the denim shape which is not on the top of the list for once!

Boyfriend style

This is a real contender for one of the more popular current choices with a relaxed fit these are perfect for off-duty weekend looks especially worn with a bright trainer.

Barrel-leg

Often only flattering for those with slender bottom halves as it can create extra width though slender body shapes.

Teenagers rule this style with nonchalant aplomb.

Flare

The rule-breaker of the denim world and great for top heavy body shapes to balance, though not for the faint hearted.

This is a confident choice plus with many styles looking great with the added height of a platform heel and the definite nod to 70’s free-love this is someone who’s happy making an entrance!
