Reports: Williams F1 Looking to Replace Accident-Prone Nicholas Latifi in 2022

Williams might be looking for a new driver lineup for the 2023 season. The British team currently has Alex Albon and Nicholas Latifi as their drivers for the 2022 season. But there are many reports suggesting that the Canadian driver might lose his seat with the team next season.

Latifi is very prone to crashes. And it is evident by his 2021 Abu Dhabi, 2022 Saudi, and 2022 Australia crashes. He has also not performed in the car consistently and only scored points occasionally.

As reported by Marca, Dorilton Capital, owners of Williams racing team, might be on the search for a new driver to replace the Canadian. Nicholas is widely considered a pay driver in the sport and many fans have stated that he is only in the sport because of his investments in the team.

But with the takeover from Dorilton, it looks like the team might not need the funds and investments provided by Latifi. The new owners are looking to get a driver that can take them forward and push for better results alongside Albon.

Which drivers can replace Nicholas Latifi at Williams?

If the seat on the British team does get vacant during the season, then it would be a great opportunity for many drivers on the sidelines. The team can finally attract the drivers that the fans are waiting for to either return to F1 or make their debut. Some drivers that can possibly make the Williams roster include Nyck de Vries, Stoffel Vandoorne, and Nico Hulkenberg.

De Vries and Vandoorne have been the Mercedes reserve drivers for ages and have been waiting on the sidelines for a while. While Hulkenberg has been a super-sub with Aston Martin since the 2022 season.

But this could also be a great opportunity for F2 champion and Alpine reserve Oscar Piastri. The Aussie driver is clearly talented and deserves a shot in the F1 car. Other names that are being looked at are Red Bull juniors, Juri Vips, and Liam Lawson. But it would be fascinating to see who would Williams pick if they indeed replace Latifi.
