We All Know Birdies and Eagles, But What is a Condor in Golf?

Golf has a vast vocabulary with terms like a birdie, eagle, bogey, etc. Moreover, a rookie may find these terms overwhelming, but an ardent follower will have no issues. However, there is a term in golf that even the passionate followers of the game aren’t aware of, and the term is known as a condor.

Surprised? Yes, even a condor is a word for a score, just like a birdie, eagle, or bogey. A condor in golf is extremely rare. So a condor in golf is a score of four under par. Moreover, the condor has occurred only six times in the entire history of golf. Hence, not many fans or followers of the game know about this term.

When was the first condor scored in golf?

Birdies, eagles, and albatross are common occurrences in golf. However, until 1962 there was no term for a score of four under par. This means a hole in one on a par-5 or two shots on par-6. Hence, in 1962 Larry Bruce made a hole-in-one on a dogleg right 480 yards par-5 hole at Hope Country Club.

List of all six golfers with condor

Here, is the list of six golfers who were able to achieve this feat:

First, Larry Bruce did it in 1962 on a 480-yard, dogleg-right 5th hole at the Hope Country Club in Hope. He was the first-ever golfer to achieve this feat.
