This WWE Legend Was on Backup Call In Case Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns Didn’t Make It to WrestleMania 38

The match between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 38 was the biggest match in the last few years. The world title unification match was to unify the WWE and Universal Championships by the winner. Roman Reigns won the match and took the titles home after he connected Lesnar with a spear.

Surprisingly, the company also had a contingency plan which involved a WWE Legend for this WrestleMania match if either of the superstars didn’t make it to this match.

The match would have changed if WWE would have used the back-up plan.

John Cena was the back-up for Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar’s match at WrestleMania 38

Recently, RingsideNews shared a report about John Cena being in the talks for WrestleMania 38 if Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar wouldn’t make it. Apparently, WWE kept John Cena on the call as a backup for extreme situations.

Steve Carrier of Ringside News shared this intriguing piece of news on his Twitter account.

The tweet said, “John Cena’s schedule is incredibly loaded, but WWE still has him under contract. It’s not likely that they will call Cena with a day’s notice, but it’s not out of the question.

RingsideNews gave a recent example of an extreme situation for John Cena’s return to WWE, “If Brock or Roman got hurt or got COVID the week of Mania, they could plug in Cena into the main event on very short notice. Cena is always available in case of emergency to WWE.” [H/T RingsideNews]

John Cena is already in contract with WWE. He is busy with a Hollywood schedule as of now and is unable to wrestle full time in WWE. However, he is always ready to chip in if Vince McMahon calls him for a match.

WWE can call Cena with prior notice if they have any plans for him. Cena has a contract for a few more years and he will make occasional returns.

John Cena is in talks to return in June

While reporting for John Cena as a backup plan for WrestleMania 38, RingsideNews also shared details for possible returns of Cena in June for SummerSlam. The company has given no hints, but the return is in the pipeline.

Steve Carrier of Ringside News tweeted this saying, “A lot of people are talking about John Cena and a possible Summer return. We asked about this, and the idea wasn’t shut down. We also learned that “Cena is always on call.” He is under contract for a few more years and “available in case of emergency to WWE.””

Cena is always on the call, as said earlier. There are plenty of storylines in which WWE can put the 16-time world champion. Cena appeared last year at SummerSlam and this year it is said he will return for a match in the summer.

Do you think Cena will return? Who will be John Cena’s opponent? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
