‘Hippie Stuff I Love’- Bianca Andreescu Reveals What Pushed Her for a Comeback in Tennis

Bianca Andreescu rose to prominence courtesy of a breakthrough season in 2019. After winning a couple of Masters 1000 titles, her triumph at the US Open in 2019 was like icing on the cake for the young Canadian. However, she could not hold on to her form for long. By the end of 2020, it seemed like her peak was behind her despite being barely 20 years of age.

Nonetheless, rejuvenated after taking some time off the tour, she is now ready to make a strong comeback to the tour, hoping to scale new heights in women’s tennis.

Speaking to a WTA insider, she opened up about her time away from the game and her desire to challenge and push herself on her comeback.

Bianca Andreescu is excited to play again

In an interview with a WTA insider ahead of her Stuttgart Open debut, she revealed, “I’m being really honest here, but I actually wanted to quit the sport… it was an accumulation of two-and-a-half years. A lot had happened and I just didn’t want to deal with anything anymore.”

I really developed a stronger passion for this game and I realized that I truly love this sport.” pic.twitter.com/HetkezZJsY

While she gave an exclusive interview ahead of her comeback, the main crux of it was how the time off helped her deal with her dwindling passion for the game. She said, “Just having that opportunity really helped me get away from the tennis world… I was in my own bubble, just complete meditation, yoga, all that hippie stuff, which I love.”

Andreescu on rediscovering her passion for the game

Bianca Andreescu also mentioned that this time off helped her find herself and realized her love for the sport. Andreescu says she has now developed a stronger passion for tennis. She felt that this was a good time to make a comeback because she missed challenging herself on the court and pushing herself to more and more difficult and intense limits.

“But I just felt like my time off was enough. I kind of got tired and bored of not challenging myself on the court. I really missed that fire that I had competing and pushing myself. So I think that was when I thought it would be good to start playing again,” she added.
