Recently, Osaka posted a picture of the shoes that Nike and had designed for her upcoming clay-court season. The colors – blue, green, and black seem like a weird combination but it helps in bringing out the features of the shoe better. It looks quirky and right up Osaka’s style –  which is chaotic and colorful to say the least.

Will this year be better for Osaka on clay?

Naomi Osaka has had great success on hard surfaces but she has not been able to find her footing on the red dirt yet. While she managed to play at the 2021 French Open, she withdrew mid-way in order to preserve her mental health. Osaka’s refusal to speak at the post-match pressers led to a heavy backlash and it resulted in her pulling out of the event.

She did help in bringing to the fore the issue of mental health in elite athletes and looks a lot better on court now than those days. Here’s hoping that those slick shoes and her rejuvenated mindset can help her find some success during the extensive clay court season.
