Max Verstappen Shakes His Head at Increasing Street Circuits on F1 Roster – “Entertainment Will Be More Important…”

Formula 1 has increased the number of races in recent years. The 2022 season will witness 23 races with Miami added as a venue. As the sport is growing, Formula 1 is planning to host more races in the upcoming years. With Las Vegas and Qatar already added to the schedule for the 2023 season, there are questions about whether they will remove some of the existing venues on the calendar.

The excitement among the fans will increase because of more racing action, without a doubt. However, Max Verstappen believes some tracks should remain in the Formula 1 schedule.

Max Verstappen does not prefer more street circuits

We have already witnessed two races on street circuits. Albert Park in Australia and Jeddah Corniche circuit provided some excellent entertainment. The 2022 season’s schedule further includes the street circuit races in Canada, Baku, Monaco, and the newly introduced Miami Grand Prix.

There is also massive hype around next year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix in the streets of Vegas under the lights. However, Max Verstappen is unsure about Formula 1’s push towards street circuits and believes some traditional racetracks should remain on the calendar.

He said, “Of course, F1 has to make money and try to make the sport more popular, but it’s also important that the right tracks stay on the calendar and that we don’t just race on street circuits or in cities. In the end, these F1 cars are not made for that.”

The Dutchman also admitted he has discussed this with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. And he revealed the sport is moving towards more entertainment to attract new viewers.

“Stefano understands that F1 may not be made for that too, but he also has to take into account his shareholders. It won’t be the same as it used to be. Entertainment will be more important but it’s just today’s world,” he added.

Earlier, Pierre Gasly also revealed traditional tracks should stay in Formula 1 calendar. The Frenchman admitted his admiration for Monaco Grand Prix and the race at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.
