Yorkshire Midwives on Call viewers break down in tears at gritty childbirth scenes in new BBC doc

YORKSHIRE Midwives on Call viewers were left “weeping” at childbirth scenes that delivers life, love, blood and tears.

The latest episode of the BBC Two documentary series followed midwives attending home births in Bradford.

Viewers got a heart warming look at the women who assist home births.

Midwife Gemma explained why home births are so popular and why she is in awe of women.

She said: “It is different for birth partners being at home because we can give them jobs to do and they can be a bit more useful.

“Every time I see a birth, I think women are incredible.”

The show follows women on their journeys from pregnancy.

They discuss birthing plans including playlists, interventions and what happens after birth.

Laura leads the team of about half a dozen midwives covering 120 square miles and about 160 pregnant women at any one time.

She revealed: “The birth is actually such a tiny part of our involvement with a family” as there are several follow-up visits.

Taking to Twitter, viewers shared her emotional reactions to the dramatic birthing scenes.


One said: “I’m already weeping and this is only the teaser clips before the titles! #yorkshiremidwivesoncall.”

Another wrote: “What an amazing programme #yorkshiremidwivesoncall was! I loved it.

“Well done to our fabulous home birth team @bthft and @CandourTV. It made me shed a tear more than once.”

A third penned: “I’m not crying, your crying.”

Yorkshire Midwives on Call airs Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC Two.
