“I’m Not Letting a 5-Foot Guy Get Out of That Circle” – Jarred Brooks Is ‘Expecting a Finish’ Against ‘Super Athletic’ Bokang Masunyane
Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks has always believed that he is the promotion’s top strawweight athlete.
At ONE 156: Eersel vs. Sadikovic on Friday, 22 April, the Mash Fight Team standout will have another chance to showcase his tremendous arsenal on the global stage.
He goes toe-to-toe with Bokang “Little Giant” Masunyane in a World Title eliminator matchup.
“I do see [Masunyane] breaking on the feet and wanting to shoot and go for takedowns. And it’s going to be a tough road for him. He’s going to have a really, really tough time taking me down,” Brooks warned.
“And if he does, I’m going to spring right back up to my feet. He’s not going to hold on to my back as he does to all these other people.”
While he remains confident of triumphing past the Johannesburg native, “The Monkey God” understands that his next obstacle would not be a walk in the park.
“Bokang is super athletic. He has a lot of great qualities that he has shown. But unfortunately, he hasn’t really gone against anybody, and they put him in front of me. I think that I have faced way better opponents,” he said.
“I’m definitely expecting a finish. I’m not letting a 5-foot guy get out of that Circle.”
Jarred Brooks is coming after Joshua Pacio
The wrestling specialist has studied what Masunyane brings to the Circle. The latter’s outings against Rene “The Challenger” Catalan and Ryuto “Dragon Boy” Sawada have showcased his ability to mix things upstairs and on the canvas.
Brooks, too, has portrayed a similar skillset on his two trips inside the Circle–a submission win over Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang and another ruthless display against Hiroba Minowa earlier this year.
He plans to maintain that winning momentum against “Little Giant”, before moving on to the divisional king.
At the same time, a highlight-reel ending will be the best way for him to send a clear message to ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio.
“I think that I’m the best in the division, no matter what. I mean, you’ve got to go out and prove things. But inside of my head and the way I see fight night, I do see my hand getting raised in a spectacular fashion,” Brooks offered.
