“Unfortunately, We Don’t Have Him”: Dalton Schultz Ponders on Life Without Former Dallas Cowboys WR

The Dallas Cowboys recently have made some pretty strange decisions regarding the free agency or trade market. Notably, their fans have often criticized their ability to handle their star players. This off season, the Cowboys traded away an important piece of their offense. Star wide receiver Amari Cooper was traded to the Cleveland Browns to handle their salary cap. This trade dealt a massive blow to the Cowboys’ offense which lacks creativity.

Amari Cooper was traded to the Browns because of the high cap value he would incur on the team. Unsurprisingly, the contracts given to Ezekiel Elliot and Dak Prescott have brought an imbalance in the Dallas Cowboys’ salary cap.

Dalton Schultz is another integral part of the Cowboys’ offense led by Dak Prescott. The Dallas Cowboys drafted him in the 2018 NFL Draft. Since then, he has transformed himself into an important player for his team.

Dalton Schultz talked about his former teammate Amari Cooper and said, “We’re a better offense with Cooper, Unfortunately, we don’t have him, and so I think the next step is having guys step up. I think there’s room to grow in a bunch of other aspects of the game.”

Dalton Schultz is in for the long-term with Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys, during the free agency franchise-tagged Dalton Schultz. He is bound to stay with the Cowboys for at least the 2022 season. The franchise would like to keep him for the long haul, as he is a good player and an essential piece of their offense.

Likewise, Schultz wants to stay in Dallas as he said, “I want to work out a long-term deal and I think they do, too, I hope we can get that done.”

Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz added about five or six pounds this offseason so he can “hold my own a little more” blocking some of larger edge defenders the team faces, particularly in NFC East. Might not sound much to non-athlete, he said, but extra mass a “serious improvement.”

The Cowboys, however, would like to get this deal done quickly. The NFL market is on the rise, as seen in the WR pool. Being able to commit to him for the long run as soon as possible could benefit the franchise.

Dak Prescott & The New Cowboys Offense

Without Amari Cooper, unsurprisingly, the Cowboys’ offense will be different. Ceedee Lamb will slot into the WR 1 role for the Dallas Cowboys in the upcoming season. However, the player under the most pressure will be Dak Prescott.

Prescott will be required to lead this team from the front. Last season Dak played well initially, but as the season progressed, his performances regressed. The running argument against Dak is that he plays well against poor teams and disappears in big games quite often. If he wants to be the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, he will have to step up, as well as help the players around him.
