‘Huge Loss’: Golf World Reacts to First Sign of Rebellion on the PGA Tour

Saudi Golf league, which is trying to challenge the PGA Tour, has been the witness to numerous sporting events held in Saudi Arabia such as motorsports, soccer, boxing, tennis, and wrestling spectacles. With Saudi’s capacity to invest in sports, it’s indeed a potential competitor to the PGA Tour.

Robert Garrigus, a one-time winner on the PGA Tour who has been playing since 2006, is the first player on the PGA Tour to apply for permission to play on the Saudi Golf Tour.

Robert Garrigus, who wishes to compete in the LIV Golf Invitational, scheduled from June 9-11 at the Centurion Club in London has raised a waiver to compete in events held on another circuit to the PGA Tour.

Players on the PGA Tour are required to apply at least 45 days before the first round of the tournament. For which a deadline for competing for Saudi money in London is Monday, April 25th.

The spokesperson of the PGA Tour also refused to make any comments on Robert Garrigus on releases for the Saudi Event. Eamon Lynch’s post reporting the news about Robert Garrigus leaving the PGA  Tour.

Ouch for the PGA Tour as it sees one of its players exit the tour

Robert Garricus’ agent Kevin Cannings also refused to make any sort of comments regarding the matter. The tournament in London is also the first of eight scheduled events announced by Greg Norman, who is the public face of LIV Golf, an organization that is funded by the Saudi government’s Public Investment Fund. The tournament purse money is $25 million with the winner getting $4 million.

The PGA Tour was quoted as saying foreign “Threat” to the Saudi-backed tour. The tour has now spent some time luring the best players on the planet. Certainly, the Saudi-backed tour has some big monetary muscles, to lure some of the best golfers in the world. And if players wish to play on the Saudi tour, there is nothing wrong with that as they are free to do so.
