Upset Mercedes F1 Fans Left Appalled as Lewis Hamilton & George Russell Break 187 Race-Streak

F1 fans are excited as the Imola GP is upon us! Friday’s qualifying saw Lewis Hamilton and George Russell eliminated in Q2 this time around. Formula 1 fans surely did not expect another disappointing showing from Mercedes. The W-13 has been struggling so far, and the misery continued for Mercedes in Imola.

The Silver Arrows’ plan does not seem to work. The last time two Mercedes were out from Q2 was back in the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix.

Rain interrupted the qualifying as Carlos Sainz’s crash into barriers brought the red flag.

Hamilton was almost knocked out of Q1, but qualified for Q2 marginally. Yuko Tsunoda was only 0.004 seconds behind the seven-time world champion. As expected, the Mercedes fans on Twitter expressed their concerns, while some reacted hilariously.

Mercedes’ woeful form continues

Mercedes’ porpoising issues continued during both free practice and qualifying. The Silver Arrows struggled for grip during the Free Practice session. Lewis Hamilton shockingly finished P18, while his teammate George Russell finished P10. Hamilton complained on the radio after the session ended, as he struggled for grips.

Q1 saw George Russell finish P12, while the seven-time world champion was constantly dragged in and out of the danger zone. However, he grabbed his spot in Q2, but a rain-interrupted qualifying after a red flag saw Hamilton and Russell knocked out of Q2.

A Ferrari 1-2 during FP1 as they continued to show dominance. Shockingly, Leclerc was 1.4 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen, who finished third. Red Bull would have hoped to capitalize on the wet conditions, but Ferrari is in a league of their own.

Although Mercedes dominated the recent years, things have changed this time around. Their pace is not as good and the Ferrari have leapfrogged ahead of them in 2022. Will the Silver Arrows bounce back on Saturday? Only time will tell.
