‘Enjoy Proving People Wrong’ – Serena Williams Jumps Into British Sports Venture With Massive $1 Million Investment

Serena Williams never fails to make the headlines. Be it her success on the tennis court or her adventures in the business world, the 23-time Grand Slam champion never fails to impress. Further, she has been gaining massive strides in the business world of late. Earlier this year, her Venture Capital firm, Serena Ventures, received USD 111 million as an inaugural fund. This money has been used by the younger Williams sister to invest in women and diversity.

Subsequently, Serena’s VC firm has invested in woman-backed startups like Parfait. This company aims to disrupt the USD 13 Billion wig market by leveraging AI to help customers design their wigs. Recently, Serena Ventures closed a deal with another growing startup.

Serena Williams invests in a British sports venture

Earlier this week, the former World Number 1 invested USD 1 million in OpenSponsorship, a British sports venture. This company was founded by Ishveen Jolly. Further, it helps athletes find sponsors. Serena made this investment through her VC firm, Serena Ventures.

Talking about her latest investment deal, Serena said, “Whether it’s venture people saying that I shouldn’t be doing it, or it’s tennis when people said I’ll never be good at it, I do think there’s a part of me that always will enjoy proving people wrong.”

Apart from this, Serena is also amongst the group of investors looking to take over the Chelsea Football Club that plays in the English Premier League. The club’s owner, Roman Abramovich, is looking for potential suitors amidst rising tensions in Eastern Europe. Along with Serena, Lewis Hamilton has also shown interest to invest in the club.

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, was all praise for Serena and Lewis. He said, “Well, I can tell you not more than I’m a big admirer of both of them.” It will be an interesting few days to see if Serena and Lewis become a part of Chelsea Football Club.
