Jim Ross Praises Recently Retired WWE Legend for Hiding Hulk Hogan’s Shortcomings Like a True Pro

Hulk Hogan was the ultimate babyface of WWE back in the company’s first boom period. He was the main attraction as fans used to fill the arena where WWE hosted the shows. However, after a decade-long WWE career, Hogan jumped ship to WCW where he achieved massive success as the top heel.

After returning to WWE as nWo in February 2002, the group disbanded at WrestleMania 18 after the iconic match between Hogan and The Rock. The Hulkster in the preceding month at BackLash won the WWE Undisputed title defeating Triple H.

Hulk Hogan gave one more classic performance at BackLash 2002 against Triple H. In this way, Hogan introduced himself to the new era.

Jim Ross appreciates Triple H for carrying the match against Hulk Hogan

The latest episode of Grilling Jr. Podcast saw WWE Legend and the current AEW commentator Jim Ross alongside Paul Bromwell discussing the matches of BackLash in 2002. One match was the main event, Triple H vs Hulk Hogan for the WWE Undisputed Championship.

Grilling Jr. podcast’s Twitter account shared a short video where Jim Ross was praising Triple H for carrying out the match against Hulk Hogan. Ross in the video said, “Well I think Triple H did a marvelous job pulling the wagon that match and calling any spots Hogan couldn’t execute.”

“We knew he was limited. Everybody knew he was limited at that stage of his life.”

He added, “We knew he was limited. Everybody knew he was limited at that stage of his life. So much that he was 48 years old and so many surgeries. Could his body withstand the strenuous nature of that main event slot and I think Hogan did a good job with it. I thought it was all well and good you know.”

Hogan seemed to be towards the end of his career at the moment. As Ross said in his podcast, they had limited time with The Hulkster. There were some moves Hogan wasn’t able to do because of his age and Triple H carried out those spots smoothly

Triple H took over the match perfect for the Hulkster at the spots where Hogan wasn’t able to complete them. This was like what Kevin Owens did in his match against Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38.

Jim Ross shares his favorite version of The Hulkster

While Jim Ross and Paul Bromwell were discussing Hulk Hogan’s match at BackLash 2002, the AEW commentator shared his favorite version of Hogan.

Ross said, “I really liked Hogan as a heel in the NWO. I thought he made that group so relevant, and their results speak for themselves. I really liked the heel Hogan because it was new. It was fresh. I thought that was very, very well done creatively, and it was great until they started everybody and their brother to the group.” (H/t Wrestling Headlines)

The WCW version of Hogan was someone that no wrestling fan had witnessed. Also, with the added touch of nWo and the maliciousness Hulkster brought, he also became a top heel in the business while being the top babyface for a long time.
