Knicks Star Gives an Honest Take On “Villain” Trae Young Being Treated Harshly That Might Make New York Fans Unhappy
Trae Young has risen ever since he made his debut for the Hawks. This season he has pulled off something only one other player has achieved. Trae Young finished the regular season with the most points (2155) and most assists (737). The only player to lead in both stats at the end of the regular season was Tiny Archibald (1972-73).
Trae Young has been tremendous this season as he was last season. Especially in the playoffs’ first-round game series against the New York Knicks. Trae Young was in form and too much to handle for the Knicks, as RJ Barrett recalls.
It was this game series when the name “Villain” Trae Young took birth. The 7 game series was concluded in 5 games when the Hawks emerged run away winners 4-1. The Hawks won game 1, 3, 4, and 5. Young starred in all of them. He scored a total of 146 points at an average of 29.2 points per game. He also made 9.8 assists per game while scoring 49 field goal points and 14 three-pointers. Trae bossed the whole series and as RJ Barrett agreed, he really became the “Villain” of New York.

RJ Barrett felt bad for Trae Young
On The Old Man and Three podcast, RJ Barrett was asked about the first-round playoff series of the 2020-21 season. JJ Rednick asked him about the treatment the crowd was giving to Trae affected if him or the players or the coaching staff. The media outlets also called Trae the villain, so RJ answered on how he and his team acted in the situation and the defeat.
“I mean it’s hard not to, it’s hard not to. But like the fans and in the garden [fans] were brutal you know towards him. So I feel like my respect level for him grew after you know how well he played,” said RJ Barrett. “Like as a player he’s special. But just not like the fans are brutal, it’s like New York and Philly are just two places where you know it’s not really fun for you. If you want to go play in there, if you’re not like mentally strong like it’s going to be, those two places are going to be tough.” RJ talked about Trae.

Trae Young and the Hawks are struggling right now. They are 2-0 down against the Heat. If they hope to make any sort of comeback, they need to win the 3rd game in order to put the pressure back on the Heat and they go and try to tie the series.
