Alex Bowman Breaks His Silence After Shocking Qualifying Result for Him & Hendrick Motorsports Teammate Chase Elliott

Saturday turned out to be a mixed day in the office for Hendrick Motorsports at the Talladega Superspeedway. Both Kyle Larson and William Byron qualified in 5th and 8th, respectively. However, the same could not be said for poor old Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman, languishing down in 27th and 28th.

Speaking after qualifying, Bowman said, “I think we didn’t expect to qualify as poorly as we did. We didn’t expect to go on pole. Obviously we’ve qualified strong at superspeedways in the past, and raced terribly. I felt like, in the [Daytona] 500, we didn’t have the speed and we weren’t set up right for the race. Tried to come here with something different that will pay off in the race. It’s definitely different, obviously qualifying 27th is not where we wanted to be, but hopefully it pays off for tomorrow.”

What else did Alex Bowman say about the race weekend?

The #48 driver revealed that the Hendrick Motorsports team made several tweaks to the car. This was why it was a far cry from the car he had at the Daytona 500. According to him, they were focusing on gaining some speed while in a pack, as opposed to running alone. Admittedly, it was difficult to see if this strategy worked. This was large because there was no practice session at all.

It is also worth mentioning that, according to Bowman winning pole for Daytona and Talladega were completely different. However, he insisted that winning this race at Talladega is all the more special. For the moment, the driver will be focusing on turning around his fortune from a disappointing qualifying, into a good finish.

Naturally, this will not be an easy feat, as the race can be unpredictable. If he and Chase Elliott could keep themselves clean, they could benefit from potential big wrecks and move up the order.
