“He Low-Key Might Be Trolling”: Karl Anthony-Towns ‘Trying to Be Kobe Bryant’ Leaves NBA Fans Flabbergasted
Karl Anthony Towns has played many parts this season. He was the darling, the rebel, the aloof player all in one. He has performed exceptionally well during the regular season. Towns has taken a good Minnesota team to a play-in spot. He has been one of the best performers this season. It won’t be a surprise if he gets a spot in the All-NBA Team.
According to social media, post the 4th match against the Memphis Grizzlies, he tried to act like Kobe Bryant. In that interview, he mentions that he is neither ecstatic nor sad after the win. He said, “There’s a series left to play and we have to fight fight”. Towns mentions he took all his shots and was super aggressive during this match. This prompted NBA Twitter to another Anthony Towns related meltdown.

Many “commentators” on NBA Twitter have no option but to make fun of players making boilerplate statements. They latched onto the fact that he sounds like the legendary Kobe Bryant. These are some of the choicest tweets from that wasteland:

Consequently, he has attracted a fair share of detractors because of his more aloof and calm nature. The last playoff match’s reaction did him no favours. It was criticised a lot on social media. He has answered all those critics by dropping with 33 points and 14 rebounds, joining Kevin Garnett as the only Timberwolves players to record a 30-and-10 playoff game.
He sank 14 of his 17 free throw attempts and attributed much of his overall success in Game 4 to his output at the stripe. Among those free throws were the pair that iced the game for the Timberwolves, putting them up four with 4.4 seconds remaining.
Towns thrived in the pick-and-roll, drove as an isolation scorer against Memphis’ over-matched big defenders and even came off screens as a long-distance shooter. He scored an efficient 1.43 points per possession.

As such, he has done well enough to dispel the notion that he is not a playoff player. It’s very important for the Timberwolves, as his form can change the series on its head.
Can the Timberwolves come back? Will Towns be able to reverse this? We’ll have to see in the future play-off games against Memphis.
