Jacksonville Jaguars Shortlist Four Players For Second Consecutive No. 1 Draft Pick; Will This Be Another Trevor Lawrence Debacle?
For the second time in a row, Jacksonville Jaguars have the top pick in the NFL draft. While Trevor Lawrence was last year’s pick, this time, the management wants to think twice before making a decision.
Jaguars’ General Manager Trent Baalke, in his appearance at Friday’s pre-draft news conference, summarised the situation within the franchise. Certainly, they don’t want to waste the opportunity and vowed to have kept four players under the radar.
Who are these four players Jaguars might look for?
While Baalke reiterated with coach Doug Pederson that they are going through an extensive evaluation process, exact names were not disclosed yet. However, the top runners for the spot include edge rushers Aidan Hutchinson and Travon Walker and offensive tackles Evan Neal and Ikem Ekwonu.

These names happen to be the most probable names in the pre-draft process. When a reporter asked Baalke if the four players included two defensive ends and two offensive linemen, he replied sarcastically. He said that he believed it was a running back and quarterback. The two spots Jaguars filled last year with Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne.

While talking to the media, Baalke said the current scenario was a “work in progress,” with no details from his side. “It will be interesting to see how the top ten layouts when it’s all said and done,” Baalke said. “… We still have a lot of meetings to go through… we’re ahead of last year’s schedule in terms of preparation,” Baalke added to his statement.
Right now, the team desperately needs some help along their offensive line in protecting Trevor Lawrence as the quarterback. According to a news outlet, other prominent names include Mississippi State offensive tackle Charles Cross and Oregon defensive end, Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Was Trevor Lawrence a successful pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars?
Draft analysts claim that there are no coveted generational talents in this year’s class. But what about last year when the team was unhesitant in choosing Trevor Lawrence as the signal-caller? Last season, the Jaguars finished 3-14, raising some serious questions over the abilities of the quarterback. He made 12 touchdown passes in the 2021 season; however, conceding 17 interceptions.
Lawrence had two rushing touchdowns and 3,641 passing yards. The quarterback was signed for a four-year $36.8 million deal in the 2021 NFL draft. With a major revamp going on within the management and players, it will be interesting to see how the Jaguars improve their records in the upcoming season.
