Bonola used to work for Gaal as a handyman and allegedly had an on and off relationship with her for the past two years.

He had been a suspect for NYPD early on in the investigation.

Officers had his house under surveillance for days after her death and found some evidence connecting him to the crime scene, according to the Daily Beast.

Detectives saw that a garbage truck came to Bonola’s house on Wednesday.

Detectives searched Bonola’s trash and found a number of items and clothing with blood stains on them, according to the news outlet.

An earlier search found Gaal’s body in the park along with bloody rags that were used to clean up the mess.

Police also found a bloody orange jacket in a hollow tree during the search that they believe Bonola discarded after the crime.

A senior detective told the publication that Bonola approached the detectives stating that he noticed that they have been following him.

During questioning, Bonola tried to divert their attention to other possible suspects.

The 44-year-old agreed to go with detectives for questioning where he confessed to the killing.

Police speculate that Bonola suspected that Gaal was talking to other men and went to her house to talk about it.

The two went to the basement to talk and that’s when the crime was committed.

Gaal was married to Howard Klein who was out of town with their older son touring colleges.

The bag Gaal was found in belonged to the her 13-year-old son. Bonola used that item in hopes of the family not finding it.

Bonola has been placed on suicide watch after his first court appearance.
