‘Wished to Put That in the Movie’ – Coach Rick Macci Addresses the Disappointment of Venus and Serena Williams’ Former Rival Over Her Role in ‘King Richard’
Over the years, Serena Williams has been involved in many famous rivalries. From her sister, Venus Williams, to the likes of Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka, their matches have been a treat to watch for tennis fans. Further, amongst them was Jennifer Capriati, a former World Number 1 and a three-time Grand Slam champion.
Their rivalry began in 1999 in Berlin with Serena winning that match. Always amongst the favorites to win the title, the two frequently met at the latter stages of the tournament. However, Serena has dominated in the matches against Capriati, winning 10 of the 17 matches played against her.

Serena Williams’ former coach on why the King Richard movie left Jennifer Capriati and her mom disappointed
On the ‘No Challenges Remaining’ podcast, Serena’s first professional coach talked about if he had spoken to Capriati regarding the King Richard film. He said, “No, I actually sent her an e-mail because I did something on YouTube about what we just talked about. I talked about me training her and I talked about how I wished to put that in the movie and the whole thing about how she was portrayed, her and her mom were little disappointed, to say the least.”

Further, he went on to add, “But at the end of the day, I think that even for her, I think would be like a lot of closure and I think would be like refreshing for someone to do a movie about her life, and who knows, I might go home and send her an e-mail and just put a bug in her ear because it’s real and it’s true and you can’t get better than real and truth. And not come back and say, I got top-10, I became Number 1 and I won three Grand Slams. You can’t make this stuff up and I think that would inspire so many people just like the King Richard movie.”
