After Dominating Sprinting Events Fred Kerley Adds New Event to His Goals; Aiming to Reach Legendary Carl Lewis’ Record

US sprinter Fred Kerley is a rising sensation, and he is unstoppable. The athlete has already made his mark in the 100m, the 200m, and the 400m. Kerley won the silver medal at the Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020, 100m event. It was just months after he had taken up the 100m race/event.

Prior to this, he had proved his dominance in the other events.
Recently, Fred Kerley won the Gold medal at the USATF Golden Games 200m event. Not just this, Kerley is one of the three athletes who go sub 10 in 100m, sub 19 in 200m, and sub 44 in 400m. All this points to only one thing: the athlete is versatile and open to trying his hands in multiple events.

Kerley had decided to add yet another event to this list. That is the long jump. The athlete revealed that he is now gearing up to try his hands on this new event.

Notably, only two athletes have gone sub 10 in 100m and sub 20 in 200m, but at the same time also cleared 8m in the long jump. They are Matthew Boling and Carl Lewis. Now Kerley, too, has set this goal for himself.

“Let me go 8m now,” the sprinter declared. Notably, this is not the first time that Kerley would be trying a jumping event. He holds a personal best of 13.90 clearance in the Triple Jump. This record was made back in 2013.

Things have significantly changed since then. Kerley is all about achieving greatness now and he is not going to stop unless he has done so.

Kerley set to achieve greatness

The athlete often takes to Twitter to share motivational quotes and his upcoming goals. He aims to become a sprinting legend, and he is indeed working towards it.

The athlete firmly believes in less talk and more action. He beat his arch-rival Michael Norman at the Golden Games and will be next seen in the NIKE Prefontaine Classic. These events are a part of gearing up for the World Outdoor Athletics Championships coming up in June.
