‘Cagey’ Red Bull Fear Repeat of Horror Melbourne F1 Weekend at Miami GP

The much anticipated Italian Grand Prix has concluded and what a weekend it turned out to be for Red Bull. A brilliant 1-2 at Ferrari’s home ground, the sprint race win, and pole position, the fixture couldn’t be better. However, they’re cautious and Adrian Newey further explains on this.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix saw Sergio Perez follow Max Verstappen to snatch the maximum possible points for the Austrian team. And for the whole weekend? 1-2 in the race, P1 and P3 in the sprint, and the fastest lap fetched a massive 58 points for the team in Italy.

F1 moves to Miami for the fifth round of the 2022 season. However, the team is conscious of their outcome in Miami. Red Bull won the race in Saudi Arabia when Max Verstappen took the chequered flag and Sergio Perez took P4. While in Australia Max had to swallow a bitter pill with his DNF.

Red Bull seems to be a bit more prepared and not overjoyed this time around. The Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull Racing Adrian Newey has stated on this, “We thought we’d be okay at Melbourne, so we weren’t. We have to be Cagey about it.”

Where does Red Bull stand against Ferrari?

Ferrari won the Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne. With Charles Leclerc taking the Grand Slam at Albert Park, the Italian team seemed untouchable in terms of pace. The Maranello-based team also won the season opener in Bahrain. That makes them even with Red Bull in terms of races won this season so far.

Talking about Ferrari and their competition, Newey further asserted, “the reality is that it’s so close. This weekend we were slightly quicker on the straight, kind of quicker on some of the corners (as compared to Ferrari). Reality is this, it’s so close.”

Ferrari currently leads the Constructor’s Championship with 124 points after four races. Whereas Red Bull Racing has come up from P3 in Australia to P2 in Italy. A huge jump saw them just 11 points shy of the Italian team with 113 points.
