Dustin Poirier Promises to Beat Nate Diaz Like “Mike on a Airplane” Amidst UFC Fight Talk

The Nate Diaz vs Dustin Poirier fight seems to be a thorn that just doesn’t seem to come off. In this case, the fight never seems to materialize despite all the back and forth between the fighters. To say that Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier dislike each other is an understatement. The two of them have been going back and forth on Twitter for a while and kept missing opportunities to fight each other before.

However, things are a lot clearer right now, as Poirier seems to be eager for a fight with Diaz and has been calling him out continuously for a while. ‘The Diamond’ came off a loss from current lightweight champ Charles Oliveira. Looking to go up to welterweight for a bout, Poirier is eager for a fight with Nate Diaz, who is also looking for an opponent.

With numerous back and forths between the two, Dustin Poirier’s latest tweet has been directed at Diaz, referencing Mike Tyson. The former interim lightweight champ tweeted, “I’ll beat him like Mike on a airplane.”

I’ll beat him like Mike on a airplane.

This is a direct reference to Mike Tyson’s infamous recent flight incident, where he repeatedly punched a man in the face. ‘Iron Mike’ struck the heckler after being repeatedly harassed. Moreover, the JetBlue plane passenger was seen bleeding in the aftermath of this incident.

Poirier believes that he would beat Nate Diaz as bad as Mike Tyson did to the heckler.

Diaz and Poirier were touted to face each other in the octagon during UFC 230. Unfortunately, Poirier had to pull out of the fight due to an injury leading up to the day.

Will the Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz fight happen?

The talks of a possible fight between the two are getting hotter and hotter by the moment. Given the availability of both fighters in the UFC roster currently, making a fight between these two makes perfect sense. Moreover, Nate Diaz just recently tweeted that he does not want to fight Conor McGregor

@ufc I been trying to fight everybody and no go what’s the hold up ?
I’m not fighting Conor he sucks.
I’ll fight some one quit slow rolling me please
Thanks

With the UFC trying to save face with Diaz not facing top welterweights, making a matchup with a top lightweight makes sense. That being said, never say never. The path of both of these fighters might go either way. The current favorite fight for Nate Diaz remains the trilogy fight with McGregor.

Diaz’s frustrations with the UFC in fixing him a fight have been increasing. Therefore, there’s a high chance that these two could push the management to make a fight.
