I’m abused on school run by angry locals after bonkers new parking system sparked ‘mayhem’ – it could be solved easily

A MUM says she’s been abused on the school run by furious locals after a new parking system caused “pure mayhem”.

But it’s sparked “traffic chaos” for parents and neighbours, causing rows in the street during pick-up and drop-off times.

Olivia Newman, 30, who has a child at the school, said: “This road is always carnage at pick-up time.

“It’s been worse since the cones. I have to get here early if I want a space.

“The residents are quite aggressive. One of them threatened to smash up my car.”

A local who has been living in the street for three-and-a-half years said there were problems even before the cones were added.

“It’s not the cones that cause chaos – they’re an added annoyance,” he said.

“It’s generally the attitude and parking of the parents which is a big problem.

“In the mornings and evenings it’s 15 minutes of pure mayhem with horns blowing and people shouting.”

However, he said when the trial began, the situation quickly became a “nightmare” as the school failed to move the cones out of the way.

“The bus stopped in the middle of the road so no one could move,” he said.

“I’ve been offered out for fights and all sorts. The abuse is horrific. One told me to f*** off when I asked her why she’d parked on my drive.”

He said the easiest way to solve the problem would be for the council to install speed bumps and a one-way system.

The Sun saw an Amazon driver blocking a resident’s driveway at 3.20pm on a visit to the road. Just a minute later, the school bus arrived and the street became jam-packed with traffic.

Another local said the cones had caused “a lot of drama”.

PARKING MAD

Mum-of-two Kristy Rose, 35, said the trial is needed to “keep it safe for the kids”.

“There’s nowhere else for the bus to go. It’s mad, it’s crazy at times – people are in such a rush in the morning,” she said.

“But the school has been here longer than the houses and they choose to live here.

“It needs to be safe for the bus to park. The school are trying their best.”

Another mum, 36-year-old Emma Growers, said the situation has been “blown out of proportion”.

“They need the bus to be near the school,” she said.

“It’s for the children’s safety. That’s the most important thing.”

The row has spilled onto social media, and mum-of-two Nikki Wade, 39, said: “The school has been here for 100 years and all schools are busy.

“The residents moan about everything on Facebook.”

A spokesman for the Woodland Academy Trust said: “The safety of the children using the Go-Coach bus service is of the highest priority for the school.

“The service is an arrangement between Kent County Council and parents of the children using the bus service.

“The school is trialling a new system coning an area in front of the school.

“Unfortunately, the cones were moved yesterday causing congestion.

“The local community is important to the school and the school is constantly reviewing and amending as necessary to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children and local community.”
