Louise Minchin is set to return to the BBC Breakfast red sofa this morning for the first time since her exit last September.

The journalist, who quit the flagship show after 20 years at the helm, will reunite with her former colleagues Dan Walker and Sally Nugent for an important interview.

Announcing the exciting news on social media, Louise revealed: ‘Good morning, I am on my way to @BBCBreakfast to talk about the #HRTshortages, have you had issues getting supplies and how does that make you feel??  On the telly at about 0810.’

Dan, who was Louise’s co-star for her last five years on the programme, responded: ‘Good morning Louise. See you soon.’

During her final broadcast last year, Louise said that Dan was the reason she had stayed on the programme ‘much longer than I actually meant to’.

‘We’ve been through tough stories,’ she said. ‘We’ve been through tough programmes. The one thing has been absolutely clear… you always have my back. You’ve made me laugh, you made me roll my eyes, you pass me tissues when I cried…’

She also went on to thank the BBC Breakfast team and viewers.

‘And finally, and kind of most importantly, to everyone who’s watching,’ she said.

‘It is really, really thanks to you for watching all of these years. You are absolutely at the heart of everything that we do.

‘And it has… I feel proud, it’s been a privilege to sit here on the red sofa and report on our shared history. You’ve made me feel welcome in your homes, welcome in your hearts.’

During her tenure on BBC Breakfast, Louise covered a number of major global news stories including general elections, Brexit, the coronavirus pandemic and terror attacks.
