I’m a fashion pro & these are the five wardrobe mistakes which make you look common – it’s bad news for skinny jeans

FASHION is fickle – on one hand you’re meant to follow the trends and on the other you’re meant to stand out from the crowd.

But somewhere in the middle lies dangerous territory for those that try to achieve both and end up looking common.

Here The Sun fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend gives style pointers on how to avoid looking common and more classy.

LOGOS

We’ve moved on from Vicky Pollard Kappa tracksuits which came with a heavy chav’ reputation made famous by Matt Lucas and sprinted to designer labels with brazened logos.

Expensive brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and YSL with their initial stamps make you look flashy and like you’re trying too hard to show off your wealth.

Remember, money doesn’t buy you style.

SKINNY JEANS

Skinny jeans are the UKs most popular go-to style of jean… AKA the most common.

A quick scroll through Instagram will prove that celebs and fashion elite alike never wear them.

But if you don’t want to let go yet, look to a straight leg which is a more flattering shape and closest to the second-skin look.

BRIGHTS

The fastest way to look classy is by sticking to a neutral colour palette.

Rich beiges, dark navies, greys and black paired with crisp white creates a cleaner, sharper look that makes you look classy.

And the good news is you don’t have to send loads either, from Primark to George at Asda, neutrals are everywhere on the high street and won’t cost the earth.

CRUSHED VELVET

Crinkled velour in the style of Love Islanders grey sofas should never be worn on your body.

Luxurious, deep, rich and plush normal velvet is a must, but crushed makes you look like you couldn’t afford the real thing or just looks like you were too lazy to iron, resulting in an unkempt appearance.

OVER ACCESSORISING

Wearing everything but the kitchen sink may seem like a good idea and will make you stand out, but for all the wrong reasons.

Over accessorising makes your outfit appear too gaudy and dated.

Keep looks simple with minimal jewellery and don’t over complicate your look by adding a hat, hair band, scarf, sunglasses, belt etc.
