WATCH: Claire Weinstein Becomes the Fastest 15-Year-Old 200m Swimmer in US History

Claire Weinstein has put on a brilliant performance on the second day of the Phillips 66 International Team Trials. She amazed the crowd during the finals of the women’s 200m freestyle event. Furthermore, she even managed to record her best timing, surpassing her personal best that she clocked during the heat-wise event at the same meet.

It was an absolute delight to watch the prodigal swimmer finish the event in record time, securing her a spot in the upcoming World Championships.

Weinstein managed to take the lead on Alex Walsh during the final stretch of the event, securing the second position. Clocking in at 1:57.08, she finished 1.51 seconds behind Katie Ledecky, who finished the event with a time of 1:55.15.

With this time, she recorded the fastest time by a 15-year-old American in a 200m freestyle event. Additionally, it marks the third-fastest time in the 15-16 age group after Missy Franklin and Ledecky.

Furthermore, she recorded her previous personal best of 1:57.71 during the prelims of the same event. It put her in the fifth-place in the 15-16 Women’s 200 Freestyle Rankings list as well.

Teams must meet the time requirements at the Phillips 66 International Team Trials to qualify for the 19th FINA World Championships 2022 and the Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.

And after putting on a dazzling performance on Day 2 of the team trial meet, she secured a spot at the World Championships in Budapest.

Currently, Claire Weinstein competes for Sandpipers of Nevada, a top-tier swimming program for youths. The team ranked third in the US during the 2019 season.

Having qualified for the World Championships, she will become the youngest American swimmer to compete in an individual event at a global aquatics championship meet in the last 15 years.

Previously, Elizabeth Beisel achieved this when she qualified for the World Championships in 2007.

Before this meet, Claire clocked a personal best of 1:58.53. Last July, she swam her first sub-2:00 race in 1:58.95.

Weinstein also qualified for the Olympic trials when she was 13, making her the youngest woman to achieve this feat.

Furthermore, she has qualified for the FINA World Junior Open Water Championships after winning the Women’s Junior 5k national champion at the US Open Water Nationals in the first week of April.
