Has Angelique Kerber Ever Won a Grand Slam?

Angelique Kerber has had an illustrious career in tennis spanning more than 15 years now. She had carried German tennis on her shoulders for the past decade and a half. At a time when the likes of Serena Williams and Venus Williams were dominating women’s tennis, the 34-year-old has carved a niche for herself.

Kerber has won a number of big titles during her career. Further, she added a silver lining to it after finishing second-best at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Moreover, she is one of the few players who has dominated the rivalry against the American legend, Venus Williams.

The German tennis star has gone on to win 13 singles titles in her career. This includes three Grand Slam title victories for Kerber.

Impressive record of Angelique Kerber in Grand Slams

The former World Number 1 has gone on to win a title at each of the major tournaments, except the French Open. Her maiden Grand Slam title came in 2016 at the Australian Open. Kerber defeated Serena in the summit clash 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to claim the Grand Slam title Down Under. It was an incredible effort by the German to overcome the top-seeded Serena in the finals for her biggest career win.

Subsequently, Kerber maintained her good form that season, reaching the finals of Wimbledon. However, Serena avenged her Australian Open defeat by prevailing over Kerber in straight sets in the finals of Wimbledon. Further, Kerber overcame her Wimbledon disappointment to win the 2016 US Open title, defeating Karolina Pliskova in the summit clash.

Kerber’s third major title was at The Championships, Wimbledon when she defeated Serena Williams 6-3, 6-3 in the finals to lift her maiden Wimbledon trophy.

Kerber has had a disappointing start to the 2022 season. She has had first-round exits in a number of tournaments. Additionally, she is on the brink of dropping out of the top-20 of the WTA rankings. She is clearly past her prime and with age not by her side, it will prove difficult for Kerber to find her lost mojo back.
