Britain’s Got Talent viewers were left confused and frustrated tonight when an ‘incredible’ acrobatic act missed out on a golden buzzer.

The Freaks left everyone at home speechless and the judging panel gobsmacked by their dramatic routine.

Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon in particular were left with wide-open mouths as the group from Austria – aged 10 to 36 – turned themselves inside out to perform some death-defying tricks.

The astonishing high-impact acrobatic routine had audiences at home ‘totally blown away’ with their ‘sensational’ moves, with many questioning why they weren’t worthy of a golden buzzer, which would guarantee them a spot in the live shows.

There are currently two golden buzzers still up for grabs, with Alesha and hosts Ant and Dec yet to use theirs.

However, it wasn’t meant to be for The Freaks, despite their out of this world routine, which showed team members used as human skipping ropes and thrown from scary heights.

Several Twitter users branded their act ‘the best I’ve seen on BGT in years,’ while others said they should be in the final.

One person referred to them as the ‘best thing since Diversity,’ who won the show in 2009, beating Susan Boyle.

‘How wasn’t that a golden buzzer!!! Wow absolutely amazing never seen anything like it,’ one viewer tweeted following The Freaks’ performance.

‘See, that right there, the freaks, is a golden buzzer act. incredible, daring, and unique!!!’ tweeted another.

Another wrote: ‘The Freaks absolutely amazing, best of the night. Thought it might have been a golden buzzer for them. Incredible performance.’

Other Twitter users claimed the golden buzzer was ‘wasted’ on previous acts, including singer Loren Allred and comedian Axel Blake, both of whom have been caught up in ‘fix’ claims.

‘In my opinion the golden buzzer should have gone to The Freaks not the comedian that Simon pressed it for,’ one viewer said.

Loren was Amanda’s golden buzzer this series, following her powerful performance of Never Enough from The Greatest Showman.

The singer revealed herself as the voice behind the emotional ballad in the original film, clarifying that it wasn’t Rebecca Ferguson who sang it, despite her playing the character Jenny Lind.

Meanwhile, Simon awarded funny man Axel his golden buzzer, but BGT viewers were sceptical, since he already had his own show with Amazon Prime Video before auditioning.

While Britain’s Got Talent and ITV have not responded to allegations of a fix regarding Axel, they did speak prior to Loren’s audition hitting screens, defending her appearance on the talent show.

‘Whilst most people will have heard the infamous Greatest Showman track, Loren is not a household name, and she deserves her spot on the BGT stage,’ a spokesperson said.

‘We hope that such articles will not count against somebody who is well-deserving of this opportunity.’

Loren herself added: ‘Even though I have spent a lot of years in the music industry, people don’t know who I am. Over all these years I’ve been fighting for my chance to be known and to make it.’

Britain’s Got Talent continues weekends on ITV.
