“Stupid To Offer That”: NBA Twitter Mocks Pelicans After Rumor About Huge Extension for Zion Williamson
Zion Williamson has missed the entire season for the New Orleans Pelicans. He suffered a fractured foot last off season but hasn’t fully recovered yet. The Pelicans, meanwhile, have had a decent run in the regular season without their most important player. The post season play ins and the playoffs have brought a team which could hold down a top six spot next season. If Zion is healthy, even more.
So it was a surprise when there were mixed reactions to his probable bumper contract extension. There are rumors that his contract extension will be a five year 222.9 million dollar deal if he earns All NBA recognition next season. This is a huge contract offer for someone who has been out for the entire season.
Zion Williamson could make up to $222.9 million over 5 years on a potential extension with the Pelicans

Fans have started to mock the Pelicans over this deal. They think that someone who has not played games this season is not worth this much. So its no surprise that they made fun of New Orleans for doing exactly that. These are some reactions from the NBA Twitter “sinkhole” on Williamson’s contract:
That’s my guy but they would be stupid to offer that lol https://t.co/T6G97peFa8

When talking about his contract extension, Zion Williamson said, “Of course. Of course. I wouldn’t be able to sign it fast enough,” to the media there. He continued saying, ” I can’t control rumors and how people feel about certain things, but anybody that knows me knows I want to be here.” This sounds like music to the Pelicans faithful.
There were rumors of him leaving the team because of his lack of playing minutes during the postseason, but his assertion, for now, has quashed anything serious. As of now, there can’t be any guarantees about what can happen during the off season.
There have been criticisms of his supposed weight gain during this period. Many have said this weight might have caused some issues for him coming back to the team. These are all unfounded speculations, as of now. Charles Barkley has especially criticised the above and questioned his attitude because of this gain.

Williamson, for now, has to show fans he deserved such a contract with performances. This is a great young Pelicans side, who with a great Zion Williamson could go far in the playoffs. Hence, they need him to be fit and sign the contract extension.
