‘Been Trying to Find My Way Back’- Out-Of-Form Bianca Andreescu Finds Her Groove After Outlasting Danielle Collins at Madrid Open 2022

Bianca Andreescu, the Canadian tennis professional, became the highest-ranked Canadian tennis player on WTA in 2019. She claimed the ranking of World no.4 after conquering the hard courts of the US Open. Further, she also became the only teenager after Maria Sharapova to win a Grand Slam title.

However, not much after invading the elite list, she suffered an injury to her knee which forced her out of the circuit. Thereafter, she appeared briefly in 2021 at the Australian Open. Following her subpar performance at the tournament, she took a break for mental healing. Now, after almost 2 years, Bianca is back on the courts. And here’s what she feels about regaining her old self at the Madrid Open.

Bianca Andreescu Has Found the Lost Connection With Tennis

The Canadian, while speaking to the press, admitted that she has missed tennis. When Bianca took a break, she wasn’t sure when she will step back on the court. Therefore, she even asked her team to switch if they felt the wait was long. But now that the tennis star is gracing the courts and has bounced back from a prolonged poor form, she looked as enthusiastic as when she debuted.

As she said, “It means a lot b/c I’ve been trying to find my way back. I’m so happy I was able to get back in that zone again. I found all the tics that helped me win when I was in the zone. Little things, like touching the line, hitting the shoes with the racquet, it helps a lot.”

Who Will Bianca Be Locking Horns With?

Bianca breezed past American tennis professional Alison Riske in the first round of the Madrid Open, defeating her by 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. Thereafter the Canadian thrashed the former world no.8, Danielle Collins, in the straight sets of 6-1, 6-1.

However, for the ticket to the quarterfinals, Andreescu will have to face Jessica Pegula. WTA has ranked Pegula as high as world no.13 and currently, she is enjoying an excellent form. As it took Iga Swiatek, the current World No.1 to uproot her from the final run of Miami Open 2022.

The two times Grand Slam quarterfinalist Pegula will look for her first title of this year, but will she be able to overcome the range of shots Bianca offers? We will have to wait for till 2nd may for the answers.
