Wolff Credits Rival Horner’s Wife for Inspiration Behind Mercedes F1 Leadership: “We Utilise a Sentence From a Spice Girls Song…”

It looks like the Mercedes dominant era has come to a close with their difficult start to the 2022 season. One of the major reasons for the German team’s dominance from the start of 2014 to 2021 was the leadership of its team principal, Toto Wolff.

The Austrian joined the team in 2013 and became the team principal after Ross brown left in the same year. Under his leadership, the German team went on to win 8 consecutive constructors’ championships and 7 drivers championships.

He solved every single problem that came the way of the team and emerged with flying colors. In a recent leadership summit, Wolf talked about his leadership skills and revealed how he handles tricky situations. Interestingly, while speaking about his leadership skills, he referenced a Spice Girls song, which was written by Geri Halliwell, Christian Horner’s wife.

Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff references a Spice Girls song to describe his leadership skills

Geri Halliwell is a British singer and is a part of the girl group called Spice Girls. Moreover, she is married to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner since 2015. It was surely an interesting way for Toto to define his skills, as Horner and he are rivals in the F1 paddock.

“We try to define in the board the key targets and we utilize a sentence from a Spice Girls song- ‘ tell me what you really really want’. So I am telling them what they really really want,” said Wolff.

“But I leave it to them to solve the problem and take the decision their way. I’m there as a sparring partner and the sounding board and judge in a court and I’m involved in the may decision,” said Wolff.
