I’m 23 and friends make fun of me for being a virgin – it gets me down

DEAR DEIDRE: HAVING this status of being “the only virgin in the village” is getting me down.

All my friends know I haven’t been with anyone. They think it’s funny, but it gets me down.

I’m a man of 23 and all my friends are in relationships or have been sexually active for years. I feel so left out.

I’m wondering whether to join a dating app and go to bed with somebody, just so I can change this label that I’m lumped with.

I’ve looked at getting an escort for the evening or just offering sex to the first woman who takes an interest in me.

Is it worth doing this or am I better waiting until the right person comes along?

DEIDRE SAYS: No, you should definitely wait for the right person. You may feel you are missing out but unless you have a real connection with a partner, you are likely to find sex awkward and disappointing.

You need to know and trust somebody before you take things to a sexual level.

When you meet that special person, they will be flattered you have waited.
