Moving on From Nate Diaz, Dustin Poirier Announces Fight in July

Dustin Poirier has given up. He has given up on trying to set up a fight with Nate Diaz. Apart from the UFC not moving ahead with that fight, Nate Diaz himself does not want to fight Poirier.

With his last title contention loss, fans of the UFC thought that Poirier might have better prospects with Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout. But since that has seemingly gone out of the window, it looks as though ‘El Diamante’ now has different plans very soon.

The Diamond has moved on from the Nate Diaz fight and plans to fight in July. He took to Twitter to make this statement and has also stated a new development between two other dynamic lightweights.

Gonna fight in July,” Tweeted Poirier. Although not a confirmed scenario, the Diamond is fingers crossed to have the UFC give him another fight in July.

Coming to the possible fighters he might be facing, Poirier replied “Prolly so” to a fan that tweeted at him, asking him to fight the winner of Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson.

Poirier seems to be growing impatient by not fighting for a few months. Being in his prime, the Diamond doesn’t plan on wasting any time by waiting for reluctant fighters to take him up on his offer.

The UFC Lightweight Gold: The famed Shangri-La for Dustin Poirier

For those who don’t know, Shangri-La is a mythical land that people have tried to find for centuries. Metaphorically speaking, the lightweight gold seems to be the Shangri-La that Dustin Poirier can’t step into. Becoming the interim lightweight champion of the UFC, the Diamond was a step away from true lightweight gold but failed both times.

With a fighter arc comparable to legendary stories, Dustin Poirier might be able to get onto the lightweight championship track once more, perhaps. After all, like they say, a third time’s the charm. Dustin Poirier versus Michael Chandler will be an amazing fight to watch. Explosive and entertaining, Chandler will bring the heat to test Poirier to his limits once more.

If the ‘Diamond’ can clear out the lightweight division once more, he might be on track for a title shot once more. Supposing that Islam Makhachev is champion by then, a face-off between Poirier and Makhahev might be a Poirier-Nurmagomedov rematch.
