Kevin Durant Comes in Defense of ‘LeGM’ LeBron James Following Constant Criticism: “I Don’t Think It Works Like That”

LeBron James may be the greatest player of his generation, but he is not immune to criticism. And one of the major criticism he gets is that he takes over the decision-making of a team. Many believe he gets coaches fired, and players traded. And it is all well as long as he wins the championship. But when he doesn’t, all the blame gets heaped on him.

But Kevin Durant recently has come in support of LeBron. In an interview, Kevin talked about how players trying to be GM is a media narrative. He said, “I feel like that’s a narrative that [media created]. I don’t even think LeBron does that,”. “He might have input or know some information. But him saying [pointing left], ‘This is who you should get.’ [Points right.] ‘That’s who you should get,’ I don’t think it works like that.”

Lakers season under a microscope

Los Angeles Lakers traded for Westbrook in the off-season. They had to send their bench strength and cap flexibility for Westbrook. According to reports, it was LeBron who pushed for a Westbrook trade instead of signing DeMar DeRozan who wanted to play in LA. The trade and other offseason addition of old players like Carmelo Anthony made them one of the pre-season favorites for the NBA title. But the season eventually didn’t pan out how they hoped it would.

The injury bug never really went away from the team as one player or the other continued to get injured for the Lakers. From Anthony Davis to Lebron, nearly every major player missed some time off. And the blame for the season’s failure came on Lebron’s shoulder as fans blamed him for playing a GM.

End of the superteam era?

KD also came under fire recently when the Nets got swept by the Boston Celtics. Kevin left the Warriors for Brooklyn to form his own team and wanted Kyrie to play with him. They then traded away most of their assets for James Harden in a move that didn’t pan out.

We have reached a point where teams with structure and ethos are outplaying teams that are built on trades and superstar power. And it may just be the future of the NBA.
