‘Imagine If Aaron Rodgers Hit That Line’: NFL Fans Go Berserk After Titans QB Ryan Tannehill Says It’s ‘Not His Job to Mentor’ Rookie Malik Willis

Tennessee Titans organization would have been in hot water following quarterback Ryan Tannehill comments about rookie Malik Willis. Tannehill was candid while answering questions about his thoughts on mentoring his potential successor in Willis. Several reports were suggesting that the team didn’t involve Tannehill in discussions before drafting Willis.

He share his thoughts during the press conference stating, “I don’t think it’s my job to mentor him. If he learns from me along the way, that’s a great thing.” He believes that he and Willis are competing for the same spot on the team. Tannehill’s response, though the truth, has incurred the wrath of a section of Titans fans on social media.

The response led to the Titans QB trending on social media, and it appears to be a common theme of the clash between the old and the new guard in the NFL. While many fans consider QBs like Tannehill to be role models for their rookies, they seem to have no obligation to take such a stance. Coming off a tough last season and an early playoff exit, the pressure seems to be telling on Tannehill, and he seems to show the signs.

NFL Twitter calls out Ryan Tannehill for candid comments

Tannehill has been receiving more credit and blame than he deserves based on the Titans’ performances. Being an NFL QB is one of the most coveted positions in the game, and Tannehill is determined to hold on to his spot. While this puts Willis in a situation, it can also lead to healthy competition between him and Tannehill.

One fan rightly pointed out how the media would’ve reacted if Rodgers would put something like that out.

Imagine if Aaron Rodgers hit that line
The media would of gone crazy https://t.co/30zr6g9xR1

Another NFL fan on Twitter was supporting Tannehill and underlining the absence of any obligations.

I see zero problem with this. Always very weird that people think there should be a mentorship with QB’s.

One NFL fan was trying to make a subtle dig for his comments and compares it to the Favre-Rodgers situation.

Who does he think he is Brett Farve??

Finally, one fan shares how the Niners organization handled the Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance situation.

This is a Jimmy G appreciation message: handled last season with professionalism and class. Blocked out the noise, led the team, and took Lance under his wing. He may not be the flashiest QB, but the guy is a pro’s pro and not enough people appreciate that

The debate will continue to rage on between who is right and who is wrong beyond both these players. The 2022 NFL campaign will require the Titans to ensure that this remains a healthy competition rather than become divisive at any stage.
