It’s been a dramatic morning of coverage after Labour and Lib Dems made gains in the local elections – but Huw Edwards managed to steal the entire show by enjoying ‘a little bit of croissant’.
The BBC News legend paused his broadcast to inform viewers of what we believe to be the most important news of the morning.
‘I’m going to admit to you that I’ve just had a little bit of croissant and I’m just finishing it,’ the 60-year-old said. ‘I’m ashamed to say that but there you go.’
There’s no need to be ashamed Huw, we all love a little bit of croissant.
The newsreader, ever the pro, soldiered on.
‘It’s 20 to six in the morning…’ he went on, as the programme continued.
Understandably, viewers are absolutely obsessed with Huw and his croissant.

‘Never be ashamed of eating a croissant, Huw Edwards,’ one urged, while another added: ‘Eat your croissant Huw! We all forgive you a bit of breaky.’
‘Huw Edwards eating a croissant is the only #LocalElections22 news you need today,’ one more pointed out and we can only agree.
It’s not the first time Huw’s had viewers in stitches, with the broadcaster also having his own Ed Balls moment last year, managing to tweet his own name.

In slightly less important news, the results of yesterday’s election are rolling in and it looks like it’s been a bad night for Boris Johnson.
Thursday (May 5) saw millions of Britons descend on polling stations to cast their votes in this year’s crucial local poll.
Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Greens have all made gains at the expense of the Conservatives.

There are thousands of council seats up for grabs, with the results painting a picture of the national mood after partygate and in the middle of the cost of the living crisis.
BBC’s election coverage aired overnight.
