Miami GP vs Super Bowl: Is F1’s Latest Trump Card Capable of Stealing the Baton From NFL After 50 Years?

Liberty Media has seemingly cracked the code to entice the American audience with what is hailed as the pinnacle of motorsport – F1. The buzz around the forthcoming Miami GP has been irresistible, with more and more celebrities from other sporting world and Hollywood, too, affirming their participation in the event.

A lot are even beginning to wonder, has any other sporting event in the United States ever witnessed such a monumental hype? Well, there is one – Super Bowl!

Miami Grand Prix, the biggest competition yet for NFL?

Super Bowl is pretty much where the two worlds collide, with legends like Tom Brady and Ikem Ekwonu on one and celebrities like LeBron James, Jay-Z, and The Weeknd on the other. One can openly admit that this yearly event arguably delivers the most magnificent celebration one can expect, not just within the country, but across the entire world.

Super Bowl vs Miami GP: Which is bigger?

The history of the Super Bowl runs into the mid-1960s while Miami GP has just laid its foundation now in 2022. Hence, it would certainly be unfair to take Super Bowl’s overall stats into account and rather focus on the latest event, that is, 2022.

Attendance

The 2022 Super Bowl witnessed Los Angeles Rams clash against Cincinnati Bengals as the former eventually went on to lift the title. This particular event had over 70k (70,048 to be precise) audience swarming to the SoFi Stadium to embrace the electrifying on-pitch action.

Meanwhile, F1 will have over 240,000 spectators for the inaugural event, scheduled later this week.

Grand Prix van Miami is uitverkocht. 240.000 toeschouwers over drie dagen. Komende jaren wordt capaciteit waarschijnlijk uitgebreid.

En het is Amerika, dus veel sterren verwacht: o.a. Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Dennis Rodman, David Beckham en zusjes Williams. #F1

Revenue from hosting the events

According to reports, the NFL claimed that it could bring almost $300M to $500M to cities hosting Super Bowl events. On the other hand, Miami GP organizers, quite recently, reckoned that the three-day F1 event could milk nearly $400M to the city of Miami, going almost on par with the competitors.

Total viewership count

Super Bowl LVI cherished an insane viewership count, with the numbers estimated at around 208 million. For F1, we really can’t predict, but, if anything, the numbers are likely to be higher than last year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which gained nearly 108.7 million viewership count.

Celebrities performing at the event

During the latest Super Bowl, many world-renowned performers, including Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent.

For the upcoming Miami GP, Dj Drew, Post Malone, Blxst, Zedd, Tiesto, Chainsmokers, and many others will be firing up the big stage with some music as the drivers go racing on the track.

Overall, the upcoming Miami Grand Prix is undeniably going to be a blast with a festival-like vibe all around. But, can F1 use this trump card to supersede NFL’s historic Super Bowl?
