Novak Djokovic has struggled to find his form since the start of the 2022 season. However, after suffering losses in three tournaments, the Serbian finally seems to be on the right track in Madrid. Since the start of his campaign in the Spanish capital, World No. 1 seems to be in the perfect spot, winning matches like in previous years. He is currently in the semifinals of the Madrid Open, set to face young Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

Madrid is only his fourth tournament since the start of 2022. Even though he is the best player in the world right now. But it wouldn’t be wrong to say that lack of match practice has largely reflected on his performance lately.

Following his third-round walkover, Djokovic played Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals, beating him in straight sets. Following the win, the 3-time Madrid champion indulged in a conversation with the media. During the talk, Djokovic was questioned about his approach towards his upcoming semifinal clash with an in form and much younger Alcaraz.

Answering the question with grace and confidence, he admitted that he didn’t care about his opponent. He said, “Honestly, I don’t care who’s on the other side of the net.”

Going further, he elaborated on his point. He confessed that instead of focusing on his opponents, he just wants to focus on himself right now. “I just want my play to improve day by day. That’s the most important thing for me right now, focus on myself,” he confessed.

Novak Djokovic set to take on Carlos Alcaraz in the Madrid semifinals

Novad Djokovic, better known as the World No. 1 (for a long time now), and Carlos Alcaraz, better known as the potential World No. 1 (at least after beating Rafael Nadal), are set to play the Madrid semifinals to be one of the last two. The match will be the first meeting of the two. Going by the stats, the match plays an important role for both players.

Alcaraz recently won his maiden Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open. Winning today’s semifinal clash will give the Spaniard an opportunity to get a step closer to winning his second Masters 1000 title. On the other hand, Djokovic has been struggling to find his form since the start of the season. Winning the semifinal will take the Serbian a step closer to mark his powerful comeback ahead of the upcoming Roland Garros.
