“Looking Kind of Stupid” – Kyle Larson Aims a Dig at Denny Hamlin for his Stunt with Alex Bowman in Martinsville

In a recent conversation with The Athletic, Kyle Larson took a cheeky stab at Denny Hamlin. The defending champion was asked if he would ruin a victory celebration for a driver who wrecked them on the track. Larson obviously guessed who it was aimed at and did not hesitate in his answer. Surprisingly, he was not too vindictive and was uninterested in exacting his immediate revenge.

He said, “I don’t think I would. No, no. I don’t like drama and that just adds to the drama. And you end up looking kind of stupid. I feel like you would want to get them back in a racing situation. If you do something like Denny (Hamlin did to Alex Bowman last year at Martinsville), then you kind of lose a little bit of an edge on your payback down the road.”

“So I don’t think I would. Yeah, I don’t like drama — but you (media) guys do. So that’s why you have to ask us,” Larson added.

What Denny Hamlin-Alex Bowman incident was Kyle Larson alluding to?

For the uninitiated, Hamlin and Bowman developed a bit of a rivalry with each other. It certainly explained all the ‘Hack’ jokes aimed at Alex Bowman. Last year at the Martinsville Speedway, Bowman punted race leader Hamlin into a spin and won the race.

Obviously, the #11 Joe Gibbs Racing driver was fuming, so he went and interrupted his celebration.

At the end of the race, Hamlin went bumper-to-bumper with the Hendrick driver. Fortunately, his crew chief was able to calm him down a bit. While the #48 driver did confess that he was at fault, he insisted that he handed the lead back to the JGR driver.

In the end, it did little to appease the #11 driver, and he called him a ‘hack’. Owing to this incident, Kyle Larson would prefer to do his talking in the next race and not ruin the moment for his opponent.
