Martin Freeman and Rachel Mariam cosied up on the red carpet as they attended the Bafta TV awards together.

The 2022 Bafta awards are proving one of the most exciting yet – not least because of the surprise announcement of the new Doctor Who lead.

And as TV fanatics eagerly await the televised ceremony kicking off at 6pm, celebrities have been arriving to the red carpet in their droves.

BBC Sherlock star Martin, 50, and girlfriend Rachel, 29, rocked up to the prestigious affair looking very chic indeed as they beamed for photographs before heading into the venue.

French actress and writer Rachel, best-known for her roles in acclaimed shows Normal People and This Way Up, stunned in a plunging baby pink strappy dress.

The star paired the colourful affair with black stilettos and wore her hair in natural curves, beaming at the cameras alongside her actor boyfriend.

Martin, meanwhile, dressed for the occasion in a smart black tuxedo complete with a bowtie.

The Desolation of Smaug star looked relaxed and happy beside his new flame, keeping an arm around her as they posed for photos.

In another snap, Martin could be seen wearing sunglasses to protect his eyes from the brilliant sunshine that descended on London in time for the awards, as he kept an arm around Rachel all the while.

Martin had been in a long-term relationship with fellow Sherlock star Amanda Abbington for 16 years, but the pair went their separate ways in 2016.

The pair share two children: Joe, 16, and Grace, 13.

Amanda, 48, and Martin met on the set of Men Only in 2000 and later starred as husband and wife John Watson and Mary Morston o the acclaimed BBC drama.

It’s unclear how long Martin and Rachel have been dating, with the pair preferring to keep their personal life out of the limelight, but they were first spotted together in June 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Months later the couple were seen enjoying a romantic stroll together in London, with Martin sporting a DIY buzzcut.

(As, of course, was the style at the time as barbers and hairdressers remained closed due to the lockdown.)

The pair’s appearance on the red carpet comes as dozens of major British celebs arrive in the hopes they will win the coveted Bafta gong.
