MANAGERLESS Burnley have their sights on Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil.

The England U20 captain was wanted by Sean Dyche before his sacking in April.

However the Clarets remain interested in the Sunderland man, with them believing they could strike a deal if the Black Cats don’t achieve promotion this season.

Neil has featured prominently in League One this season, scoring three and assisting seven as Sunderland reached the League One play-offs.

He also starred in the Carabao Cup, playing 90 minutes as his side took down Championship sides Blackpool and QPR.

Burnley scout Ian Butterworth was in attendance recently to watch the promising 20-year-old.

The Clarets may be looking to secure their place in the Premier League before making any new signings.

Since Dyche’s sacking, the side under the watch of Mike Jackson have turned their fortunes around, winning three of their six games since the change.

The upturn in form has lifted them out of the relegation zone, having just three games left to play.

They will also need to wait for Sunderland’s season to conclude, with them currently 1-0 up at the midway stage of their play-off semi final.

The Black Cats are looking to get out of League One for the first time since 2018, however failure to do so will leave them struggling to hold on to their stars.

Relegated Norwich are another side monitoring the situation at the Stadium of Light, with them showing an interest in Scottish striker Ross Stewart.

The 25-year-old has 25 goals in the league this season, but could also be on the move if a return to the Championship isn’t achieved this season.
