Fans Left Outraged and Unimpressed as Golf’s Former World No. 1 Reported to Jump Ship for More Money

The most anticipated Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series is to begin in June. It has revealed that a former World No. 1 is to leave the DP World and PGA Tour to play at the league. The news made the golf world expect a lot from the event. However, they don’t think the same now that the name of the player got revealed.

Martin Kaymer is the former World No. 1 who has signed with the Series to play for them. One of the world’s reputed publications, The Telegraph, reported the news on its site and shared it on its Twitter account.

At the beginning of April, Daily Mail had reported that the LIV Golf Series had successfully signed with two of the world’s former top golfers. Furthermore, the reports also said that they are two of the Ryder Cup heroes. Later, the English golfer Lee Westwood was confirmed to be one of the said golfers.

According to the recent reports, the German golfer Martin Kaymer is the second world’s former top grading golfer to join the Series. The 37-year-old had turned pro in 2005 and has since won 16 championship titles worldwide. Notably, he has won two majors on the PGA Tour, the 2010 PGA Championship, and the 2014 U. S. Open.

Furthermore, he has represented Team Europe at the Ryder Cup four times in a row. Notably, Team Europe won three times when he was a part of it, making him one of the Ryder Cup legends.

The golf world’s reaction after the World No. 1 that signed with LIV Golf Series uncovered

The German golfer Martin Kaymer used to be a former World No. 1. He has decorated the position for a total of 8 consecutive weeks back in 2011. However, the 37-year-old ranks at 191 on the OWGR standings.

Since he is not a top runner in the current golf world, the fans thought the hype for him being the world’s top was not worth it. They reacted to the post with utmost disinterest.

Hahahhaha.

PGA Tour has been considering the LIV Golf Series as their rival league since day 1. Moreover, the Tour had even prohibited its players at first from playing at the event. Many fans took the opportunity to express why they think the Tour is concerned about the new league.

Great to see quality players being announced, The Tours could have avoided this if they upgraded their product to the 21st century.

LIV saw that opportunity and I imagine their tournaments will be pretty entertaining to watch.

Looking at Golf’s TV ratings, there’s not much interest in the pga tour, especially when there’s no Tiger no Phil or Spieth in the mix. Viewership is way down. The Zurich was terrible. Now I know why the PGA Tour is nervous, they aren’t what they used to be and no Tiger, ouch.

All the talk on here about viewing figures, I just can’t watch the PGA tour as the coverage is woefull, so boring. Sky’s coverage is so much more entertaining when they’re involved.

If TV ratings are the benchmark, the pga is struggling. They have no replacement for Tiger, there’s no Phil. The Tour is 45 weeks long and nobody is watching outside the Majors and the Players and the Ryder cup. LIV is well aware of these stats, so is the pga tour
