“The MOST effective (and honestly, only) way to have a legitimately unplugged ceremony,” the Southern California wedding planner captioned the video.

Claire says that while signage indicating the desire for an unplugged ceremony is trendy, it doesn’t get the job done.

People will likely walk past them without actually reading or listening to what the signs are asking.

Instead, she suggests an alternative that, she says, is “hands down the most effective way to make sure people are not on their phone.”

To genuinely have an unplugged ceremony, Claire says it’s best to ask the officiant to make an announcement before the bridal party walks down the aisle.

The video has been viewed more than 3.5million times and has racked up more than 390,000 likes.

Hundreds of other TikTokers had thoughts and ideas of their own to share.

“As a photographer, I always just announce it. “ON BEHALF OF THE BRIDE & GROOM SO WE MAY GET THE BEST SHOTS, PLEASE PUT ALL PHONES / cameras away,” one TikToker commented.

“I’m very particular ab wanting an unplugged ceremony, I’m gonna put it on the invites, have a sign, & have the officiant say it to cover all the bases,” another wrote.

Some TikTokers had other ideas to contribute.

“Is it bad that imma have someone collect them before they enter? Imma pay for a photographer/videographer for a reason,” someone commented.

“I heard from someone to have your officiant announce that you will have a second kiss at the end for them to take their photos and it helps,” someone else chimed in.

Claire responded by saying, “Oh I LOVE THAT.”

Someone else suggested “a ‘Kodak Moment’ before the ceremony” where their officiant “encouraged everyone to take a pic or selfie and then put their phones away!”
