“It Would Be Considered Child Abuse Today”: Michael Jordan’s Brutally Honest Admission to Mother’s Childhood Treatment Revealed
Michael Jordan is undoubtedly a legend. While he made a lot of strong men fear him because of his amazing skills, there was someone Jordan feared. It was his mother, Deloris Jordan.
When Jordan was 12, he was suspended from school for fighting and it wasn’t the first time. But Deloris wanted to make sure his son doesn’t spend the whole day in their home watching TV. So she took Jordan with her to work and made him sit in the car for the whole day. And she made sure he read his books from the car by keeping a close eye on him from the window.
She said, “He tells me it would be considered child abuse today,” pointing out how Michael would joke about it now. Deloris also said that Jordan didn’t make any trouble after that treatment.
Deloris revealed how Michael would tell how badly he wanted to be tall like his best friend who was 6’4 at the time. And she said that she would tell him to put salt in his shoes and pray jokingly. She also said that Michael’s father would tell him that he can be tall in heart.

Deloris said that she and her husband would make their children support each other in their respective competitions. While the sisters attend the boys’ basketball games, the brothers attended the girls’ softball games. She said that it was a family rule.
And the rule was followed even during Michael’s NBA career. Everyone in the family took turns to watch him play. And they always made sure at least one of them was with Jordan in Chicago.
Deloris Jordan was born in September 1941 in North Carolina. In 1954, she met James Jordan during his basketball game. The couple dated for a few years and then married in 1957.
She has established many charities and was the President and Founder of the James R. Jordan Foundation for around 20 years. In 2005, Deloris was awarded the Clinton Global Initiative Award for her efforts.
